Where Have I Been Lately? Ask My Bone Spur!

In mid-July, I started to experience severe pain in my left foot’s Achilles tendon. Source of injury: unknown. Two months later, the pain has shifted from right behind my ankle bones to the base of my heel, except when I misstep somehow, which brings the pain back in all its awful glory.

I’ve been getting physical therapy for it – which hurts when the therapist has me do certain stretches with my foot – but afterwards I feel better. I think I’m on the mend until I aggravate the problem somehow. For example, last week I was taking out the paper garbage to the recyling shed in our community’s parking lot, and because I was carrying big boxes filled with all kinds of paper, I couldn’t see what my feet were up to. I stubbed my foot on a crack in the pavement, and wow! It was like someone had hammered a spike into the back of my foot.

I’ve seen a podiatrist and he’s trying to get my insurance to agree to an MRI. The X-ray of my foot looks like the photo above (from Wikipedia). The MRI may reveal the condition my soft tissue is in, after which the podiatrist will decide what to do.

Meanwhile, I’m stuck at home on a lovely Sunday afternoon, a prisoner on the 2nd floor of our house, because it’s too painful to walk down the stairs.

  1. Hi Bruce – So sorry to read about your bone spur and the pain it is causing you. Hoping your doctor can soon devise a treatment plan that will give you relief.

On a positive note, you can most likely get a deferment from joining the military! šŸ˜‰
