I’m back to working out 5 – 6 days/week. In the pool I’ve been swimming 1,200 meters (about 3/4 of a mile) twice a week, and plan to increase the length going forward.

In the gym I lift weights and walk on a treadmill to correct my gait.

At home I ride my spin bike and do yoga stretches. Often I ride the bike for an hour, pedaling at a furious cadence of over 100 rpm.
The good news is that my body doesn’t have a severe muscular breakdown after any workout, which wasn’t the case before.
My inspiration comes from a Davis Phinney video about “forced exercise,” whereby you work harder than you would normally. This is especially true for the spin bike: typically, an average person would pedal at about 60-70 rpm, but forcing myself to maintain a speed of over 100 rpm gives me better long-term results.
Here’s the video: if you can, start it at the 9 min. 20 sec. mark (it shoud be already cued to that spot) to learn how the researchers stumbled upon the idea of forced exercise. (And I don’t mean they physically stumbled.)

By the way, in a few weeks I turn 70 years old.
