In celebration of all things sunny, and to promote an enriched environment, Parking Suns now features every Sunday a different YouTube music clip about the sun!
This week’s entry includes two songs performed by Dusty Springfield and Mel Tormé: “Can’t We Be Friends?” and “Let’s Get Away from It All.” Neither song mentions the sun or sunshine, but OMG, check out Dusty Springfield’s blonde beehive hairdo and her sparkle-marvelous dress. If that’s not a supreme example of what my website is all about (parking suns), nothing is.
I can’t stop watching the first song, which Dusty sings alone while Mel pounds the ivories. It starts out slow and wistful, but keeps picking up speed and humor. When she sings at the end, “I acted like a kid out of school,” both she and the backup musicians are, well, acting like kids out of school: they rock the house.
