In celebration of all things sunny, and to promote an enriched environment, Parking Suns now features every Sunday a different YouTube music clip about the sun!
This week, Bernadette Peters sings “Losing My Mind” from the Stephen Sondheim musical Follies. While this is not a particularly upbeat and sunny song, I was struck by how parallel the character’s situation was to people who have Parkinson’s.
Here are some of the lyrics that made me think this:
The sun comes up – starts right off mentioning the sun, a requirement for Sunny Sundays
I think about you
The coffee cup – there’s a strong relationship between drinking coffee and having PD
I think about you
I want you so
It’s like I’m losing my mind – don’t we all have to worry about this?
…..
Sometimes I stand in the middle of the floor
Not going left
Not going right – freezing
…
I dim the lights
And think about you
Spend sleepless nights – insomnia; sleep disturbance
To think about you
