Everyone in the United States seems to agree now that Russia hacked US political organizations during the recent presidential election. I thought I’d add my experience with Russian cyber activity here at Parking Suns!
I started Parking Suns almost two years ago. I posted my first blog article on Feb. 15, 2015, and continued to post articles without announcing my blog’s existence until March 1. I had no visitors up to that point. Then, on March 1, I heralded Parking Suns’ existence everywhere: on various Facebook pages, via emails to all my friends, on websites of all sorts of Parkinson’s disease organizations.
Between March 1 and March 4, my site had almost 200 visitors. Most were in the USA (110 visitors), but the country that came in 2nd place was…you guessed it, Russia (43 visitors). Australia was a distant 3rd place with 12 visitors.
I thought this was very strange.
In addition, I get many spam messages left as viewer comments, and a large portion of them are from Russian email addresses, with messages written in Cyrillic. Many appear to be by/for the sex industry, but not all. Here are two non-sexual examples that came in this weekend:
