Throwback Thursdays Art

Every Thursday, as part of my personal “enriched environment” initiative, I post a piece of art, usually from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which recently released online some 400,000 high-resolution images of its collection.  All artwork will show a sun (or sunlight) somewhere.

I won’t name the piece or the artist, but instead invite you to study the art and post a comment addressing one or more of these questions:

  • What is going on in this picture?
  • What do you see that makes you say that?
  • What more can you find?

If you have another idea, run with it.

  1. Sun off screen and on the left. Awnings and blurry people on the right. Sunshine on the right. Heavy shadows on the left. It seems like morning before the market will open, but the sun is already high in the sky, so I would think there’d be more action in the street. Maybe everyone is out of the sun because it’s burning hot.

    Enjoyed this photograph.

    1. This is a great question people are raising – how hot is it, and how comfortable is it in the shade! Thanks for writing!

  2. Golly! This picture has such an emphasis on heat and shadow. Everyone is off the street in the middle of the day even though it appears to be a market street. It’s very hot I think. Where did this take place?

    1. I don’t know where this takes place, but I agree there must be something hot about the sun to make everyone stay off the street in the middle of the day. Thanks for writing!

  3. I love how the buildings on the left are all dark and in shadow, but the buildings across the street are a mix of light and dark.

  4. This is a captured newsfeed photo from the planet Grgzzalndrrrrow, a mirror image of Planet Earth but 729,854 light years away. It’s election Day and everyone is off the street because they all vote from home via special bnsildrews. The two candy-dates for Precedent are Hellry Clip-On and Ronald Rump. As soon as the final vote is tallied, a herd of qltisorxbruns will stampede down this street, trumpeting the vector. If Clip-On becomes Precedent, it’s ice cream and uoprisotiex for all. If Rump is e-lected, everyone and everything you see in the photo will bvnmyutw. I’m sure they’ll all vacate to Planet Qwerty. Forewarned is four warmed.

  5. there is one man who is clearly delineated and he is sitting in the sun and close to the center of the picture. the other “humans” look like ghosts or gigantic covered urns.
it is unusual because the bricks in the sunshine on the right side of the picture are clear and distinct. the humans are mostly blurs.

  6. Just like a ghost you plan on hauntin’ my dreams
    But now I know
    You’re not what you seem…

My thoughts on this spooky photo.
