Today Parky took a walking tour of beautiful Encinitas, California, just up the coast from San Diego.
Many homes are on a high cliff overlooking the Pacific. The view is stupendous…but as Mother Nature erodes more and more of the cliff, some houses are no longer safe to live in. Look behind us, and notice how the corner of that terrace is now jutting out into the air. It’s not how the house was originally built, and the government is forcing the owners to have the terrace removed. We’ll see the house again when we are down on the beach. But first….
Read the signs!
We snapped this photo down on the beach, looking up at the house we just saw. Now we notice the whole underside of the terrace is exposed and likely to fall at some point. Yikes!
Yikes again! This house has been completely condemned by the government! Look out below!
More cliffs, this time of solid rock. Hmmm….Makes you want to go rock climbing, doesn’t it?
So when we came to a pile of boulders, Parky dug his hind legs into the sand and started upwards.
Go!
……….Go!
……………….Go!
Phew! Good for you! You’re through! Admire the view!
Mr. William (“Bill”) Cormorant approves!
Here are some (heart-pounding, thigh-exhausting) steps back up from the beach.
They lead directly to the Self-Realization Fellowship retreat center and meditation gardens.
The gardens contain secluded spots for meditating. Parky twisted his legs into the lotus position and reflected on all that he saw and did today.
He stopped to gaze at some big colorful fish, who stayed way down at the bottom of their pool. (Someone said they were coy.)
End of our walk! Another day, another adventure!
Remember, you can buy your own Parky, the official World Parkinson Congress mascot, here! All profits go to the WPC Travel Grants Program, which helps a junior researcher or person with Parkinson’s disease to attend the World Parkinson Congress 2016 in Portland, Oregon!
Love that you share Parky’s adventures!!
(Does homeowner’s insurance in Calif. cover houses falling over cliffs?)
