Unfortunately, if you have PD and end up in the hospital for some other reason, the hospital staff may not know all they have to do to keep you up-to-snuff on the Parkinson’s front, especially with the timing of your medications.
Solution: The “Aware in Care Kit,” available for free from the National Parkinson Foundation. The kit includes a medical ID bracelet, a bag large enough to carry your medicines, a set of medication forms to hand out to hospital personnel, and a PD fact sheet to share with the staff. It’ll make your hospital stay go much more smoothly.
This video gives one Parky’s clear reasons for getting and using the kit:
Thank you, National Parkinson Foundation!
BTW, I hope you never have to serve time in jail. But if this happens, get the “Aware in Care Kit” before you go! For a real horror story of how one inmate with Parkinson’s disease was treated by the New York prison system, click here.
