Every Thursday, as part of my personal “enriched environment” initiative, I post a piece of art, usually from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which recently released online some 400,000 high-resolution images of its collection. I won’t name the piece or the artist, but instead invite you to study the image and write a comment about what you see or what it makes you think of. All images will have a sun (or sunlight) in them somewhere.
So study the picture, and leave your reflections below!
And when I awoke
I was alone
This bird had flown
Interesting hairstyle. Gray hair, parted in the middle, not very full, falling down around the ears. Not attractive by contemporary standArds but maybe the style back then.
When I look at this I think it’s funny that the face is black and white but the body, the breast, is. A wonderful rose-pink
The man’s face looks deranged and quirky even if I cover up the bird’s body with my hand. The artist who drew this was brilliant. Too bad the paper has smudges and blotches, but at least they don’t destroy the actual image. I like how the three main clumps of yellow leaves frame the figure like ostrich feathers in a burlesque fan dance. The black dot just above and to the left of the man’s head is like a beauty mark , and I can’t stop staring at it now.
This hung in New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art?!
What kind of bird body is that? The tail’s kinda strange. I bet that the kind of bird it is is part of the message.. Also who is this guy?
This gives me a wonderful idea for my two grandkids . We will make a family tree with bird bodies that we color with crayons and photos of the family faces that we cut out. .., What a fun idea. !!!!
