The Sun in Poetry

spring

Spring

Spring
Breeze passing through your hair
Wind rushing past your hand
Like 100 people pushing, shoving to see Langston Hughes

When your cheeks turn cherry
And when the air becomes
A sweet strawberry patch

When you taste the taste of watermelon
And green grass feels fresh after a shower
And dries in the sun that shines gleams yellow
But matches your feelings

When you sense the scent of roses
Showing off in their freshness from Spring

When Spring passes through my body
Spring everywhere

– written by a 3rd Grade student at my charter school

A 3rd Grade student wrote this poem many years ago at my school, the Bronx Charter School for Better Learning.  This year she graduated from high school; for September she’s been accepted into an Ivy League school.
