First off, I love the blackbirds in this photo.
Second, to follow up on Emily Dickinson’s fabulous poem (Because I could not stop for Death — He kindly stopped for me…), here are three relevant, intelligent flicks, all end-of-life documentaries.
1. “One Cut, One Life” is a new documentary about someone with Parkinson’s disease who dies of leukemia. It sounds excellent. Here’s the New York Times’ review; check your local paper for show times.
2. “How to Die in Oregon” has been around for a while and I saw it on Netflix. Nobody in the movie has Parkinson’s; they’re dealing with other terminal illnesses. It’s a calm and rational movie, in my opinion, even though it deals with end-of-life choices. Here’s the website.
3. “So Much So Fast” has also been around for some time. It’s a sometimes comical, always stirring documentary of how a highly motivated family reacts when one of its members gets ALS. Here’s the trailer.
And now back to our regularly scheduled programming….
